Today we pay our respects and honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., one of the most influential civil rights leaders in our country’s history.
The 2020 global COVID-19 pandemic presented us with unparalleled uncertainty. However, as a result of George Floyd’s death, it also became a significant turning point in the #BLM movement, inspiring a worldwide reckoning over racial injustice. The death of Floyd, and many other African Americans, also sparked a sea of change necessary in our society. My recent novel, Betrayal in Black, pays homage to these unfortunate black citizens, reminding us that behind every victim is a tragic family who mourns his or her loss.
While we have come a long way since the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, we still have a long road ahead.
As we move forward into a new year and new administration, I urge you to commit to inspiring and motivating others as we navigate our changing landscape. We must continue Dr. King’s fight for racial and financial justice.
