Following our post from yesterday and after weeks of public outcry about immigrant children being separated from their families and put into detainment facilities, President Trump signed an executive order to “keep families together” at the border. Has the president suddenly found his soul?”
If you closely examine this ‘order’, you will see that little has changed. His solution to “keep families together” is still heartless. Instead of children being separated from their immigrant parents and put in cages, they will be in jail cells alongside their parents – indefinitely. Furthermore, the executive order only applies to situations going forward. All those families that were torn apart prior to the order will remain separated. The President says his order would not end the “zero tolerance” policy and that he will criminally prosecute all adults who enter the country illegally. This new ‘order’ is little more than lipstick on a pig. The president continues to behave like a tyrant. This is not America; this is not who we are.
We must continue to voice our discontent with these inhumane policies. Presidents are not above the law. Presidents should embrace policies that seek justice for all races, creeds, colors, and religions. Justice should apply whether people are citizens or people seeking to be citizens. Where is our compassion? Where is our country’s soul? Turn back, Mr. President.
