Distracted driving continues to be a serious issue across America. In an increased effort to help motorists focus on the road, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has declared April as National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Administrator David Strickland said, “Many drivers do see distracted driving as risky when other drivers do it, but don't recognize how their own driving deteriorates.” We all think we're the exception; it won’t happen to us. This is a bad assumption and the consequences can be serious, and fatal. Distracted driving includes talking on a cell phone, texting, eating, drinking, applying make-up, shaving, using a GPS system, fiddling with the radio or iPod, talking to passengers, picking up objects in the vehicle, and attending to the needs of a child or pet. Even daydreaming and being “lost in thought” increases the risk of a serious auto accident. These activities are all the same – distractions that imperil everyone on the road.

The consequence of distracted driving affects everyone – victims who survived the accident and those who lost a loved one. It is not worth the risk! The best way to end distracted driving is to educate all Americans about the danger it poses. Click here to learn how you can get involved.

Don’t let one call (or other distraction) wreck it all! Start today and put an end to distracted driving.
